4 Bookkeeping Tips for Reluctant Business Owners

Business owner not listening If there’s one thing we know at AIS Solutions, it’s the mix of emotions that business owners have towards taking care of bookkeeping and accounting – the stress, the dread, the uncertainty in where to begin – it’s an aspect of entrepreneurship that many would rather forget, but it’s an aspect nonetheless, and it needs taking care of one way or the other.
For those staunch proponents of DIY, regardless of how unappealing the task may be, there’s an article over at the Intuit Small Business Blog entitled 4 Bookkeeping Tips for Reluctant Accountants that we thought we’d share in an effort to help business owners that prefer to do their own bookkeeping make the process a little less irksome and a little more easy.
Here’s a look at one of their tips:
2. Choose the right software. Trying to keep your company’s finances straight without the appropriate tools can be a frustrating task. Accounting software programs like Intuit’s QuickBooks help small-business owners save time, reduce errors, and provide a backup of data. For example, QuickBooks enables you to log transactions, invoice customers, and create custom reports with ease.
If you’ve visited our website or blog before, you probably know we’re pretty big fans of QuickBooks and utilize it as our primary bookkeeping software, both for ourselves and our clients. That said, I can’t agree enough with the assessment that the bookkeeping can be a lot less frustrating if you’ve got quality software on your side. As the article says, QuickBooks is designed for small business owners, and makes organizing financials easy and efficient. It’s a sound investment and will end up saving a lot of hassle and time for those business owners that are looking to do their own bookkeeping.
Despite the fact that I own a bookkeeping firm, I’m first and foremost a business owner and can empathize with the apprehension that many face when it comes time to take care of their financials.  In fact, I’m thankful every day that I have someone that looks after my bookkeeping so I don’t have to!  If you aren’t as fortunate to have a team of bookkeepers at your disposal, there are solutions to help make it less of an ordeal. We’d recommend giving this article a read to learn what some of those are.
What did you think? Do you dread the prospect of bookkeeping but do it yourself anyway? Did you find these tips useful? Your thoughts are always welcome, so let us know!

You are absolutely correct! Most business owners didn’t go into business to do bookkeeping, but it is such an important piece of the success of their business.
