Who is in your Army?

Who is in your Army?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

your armyOne night during my recent vacation to Mexico, I was heading to dinner, walking to our restaurant in the Mayan Riviera and saw the most incredible thing.  Along the edge of the sidewalk, beside a side flower bed was this row of ants.  All of the ants were heading in the same direction, carrying leaves.  Passing them in the other direction, were other ants, going to get more leaves I assume.  I had no idea where they were going, but they all did.  They were all moving towards some higher purpose, and they were all in perfect sync with each other.  None of them was bumping into the one in front of them.  None of them seemed to be struggling under the weight of their leaf, even though the leaves were not all perfectly uniform.  As I watched this amazing feat of nature, I thought to myself, this is what a good business model is and I need to replicate it in my business.

Every business needs a purpose – for the ants it was to get these leaves back to wherever they were going.  For most businesses it is defined as their vision.  Some have a clear concise vision, and others have a carefully crafted, written by a team of Marketing experts, vision.  And although it has probably taken me 5 years to figure the vision out for my business, I finally have.

I’ll share it with you – “The vision of AIs Solutions is to be the standard against which all other bookkeepers and bookkeeping firms are measured”

Since defining that vision, I’ve been amazed at how much clarity I have been able to achieve on what my goals should be.  Where my focus should lie, and my team understands what the fundamentals are that we need to achieve.

I truly believe, that in order for your team, or your Army, to use the analogy of the ants, to know where they are headed, they must know where they are going.  And like the ants carrying the different sizes and shapes of leaves, each member of your team will play a different role.  The key is to get them to be carrying the right leaf.

Do you have a vision for your business? Does it resonate with you or was it created because it sounded good, and sounded like something you should say?  Because if you don’t believe in your vision, you will be hard pressed to find any ants to march along with you.
