I thought that since QuickBooks is one of the most popular pieces of software being used by Canadian small and medium sized businesses, I would start a regular feature of QuickBooks Tips and Tricks. I’ll vary it up a bit, so that this will be helpful whether you do your own bookkeeping, or whether someone else does it for you and you only review the output. If you have any questions, or would like me to focus on a particular module, or answer a question, I’d be happy to do so. Either drop me an email, or comment below and I’ll try to assist as best as I can.
I’ll start with an easy one, but one that is very helpful. – The Open Window List:
To give you more room to work on the task at hand, QuickBooks displays one window at a time. When you open a window, it appears in front of other windows that you previously opened.
The Open Window list keeps track of the windows that are open.
To turn this feature on, go to the View Menu at the top of the screen, and check off Open Window List.
You will now get a sidebar that looks like this:
Use the Open Window list to switch between windows while you work. To switch to another open window, just click the title of the window that you want to display. If your QuickBooks software is running very slow, the culprit may be too many open windows. QuickBooks doesn’t automatically close windows when you open a new one. Even when you log off the database the windows will all reopen the next time you launch the program.
Hope this helps and happy bookkeeping J
